Biography

Born in 1940 in Weimar, Ernst Alisch left East Germany for West Germany in 1955. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt and was soon performing at all the major German theatres. He has been awarded the title “Actor of the Year” several times. He has appeared in a number of films for cinema and television but has devoted most of his career to the theatre. He has been invited to major festivals such as Berlin, Beijing and Shanghai and interpreted the role of Tiresias in Antigone in Epidaurus.
In the last few years, he has performed at the Schauspiel in Düsseldorf, the Schauspiel in Frankfurt and the National Theatre in Mannheim. Under the musical direction of Calixto Bieito he has interpreted the role of King Basilio in La vida es sueño by Pedro Calderón de la Barca, Prospero in The Tempest by Shakespeare and, last year, he portrayed the role of Wolfgang Flick at the world premier of Hector Parra’s Wilde at the Schwetzingen Festival.
