Biography

Dmitry Golovnin’s recent and future appearances include both Agrippa and Mephisto in The Fiery Angel for Zurich Opera with Gianandrea Noseda and Calixto Bieito, Don Juan in Dargomyschsky’s The Stone Guest at the Bolshoi in Moscow, Prince in Rusalka for Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Alexei in Prokofiev’s The Gambler at Theater Basel as well as his debuts at Opéra Bastille in Paris as Grigoriy in Boris Godunov with Vladimir Jurowski and at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with Pablo Heras-Casado.
Since 2007 Dmitry is a member of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg singing roles such as Don José, Cavaradossi, Pinkerton, Turiddu and Gustavo in Un ballo in maschera, as well as Lykov in The Tsar’s Bride, Prince in Rusalka, Vaudémont in Iolanta, and Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer (nominated for the Golden Mask Award in the category Best Opera Performer in 2013).
His guest engagements inlcude Federico in L’Arlesiana at the Teatro Pergolesi and the Wexford Festival, Agrippa and Mephisto in Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel at Komische Oper Berlin and Opéra de Lyon, Prince Myshkin in the world premiere of Weinberg’s The Idiot at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Grishka in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh with the Liceu in Barcelona, Painter in American Lulu at the Theater an der Wien, Andrey Khovansky in Khovanshchina and Zemlinsky’s King Kandaules for the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Golitsyn in Khovanshchina at Theater Basel, Albert in The Miserly Knight and Dante in Francesca da Rimini at La Monnaie in Brussels. Dmitry Golovnin studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory and at the Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg, Germany, with William Workman. In addition, he took lessons with Franz Grundheber, Virgilius Noreika and Elena Obraztsova.
