Born in Oman and a graduate of the Young Artist Programme at the Los Angeles Opera, Deepa Johnny made her debut as Penelope (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria) at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in 2024. She has performed the title role of Carmen at the Opéra de Rouen and the role of Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Portland Opera and San Jose Opera.
She has also appeared at the Manchester International Festival, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Bregenz Festival, and the Southbank Centre in London in the creation of The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions, a work by Ted Huffman and Philip Venables based on Larry Mitchell’s foundational LGBTQ+ text.
Last season, she performed Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Opéra de Lille, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Opéra national de Lyon, Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the Houston Grand Opera, and the title role of Carmen at the Hong Kong Festival. In the 2025–2026 season, she will perform Angelina at the English National Opera, Rosina at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, and Dejanira (Ercole amante) at the Paris National Opera.
