Born in Oman and a graduate of the Young Artist Programme at the Los Angeles Opera, Deepa Johnny made her debut as Penelope (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria) at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2024. She has performed the title role in Carmen at the Opéra de Rouen and Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro) at the Portland Opera and the San Jose Opera.
She has also appeared at the Manchester International Festival, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Bregenz Festival, and London’s Southbank Centre in the premiere of The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions, a work by Ted Huffman and Philip Venables based on Larry Mitchell’s seminal text on LGBTQ+ rights. Last season, she sang Rosina (The Barber of Seville) at the Opéra de Lille, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Lyon National Opera, Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the Houston Grand Opera, and the title role of Carmen at the Hong Kong Festival. During the 2025–2026 season, she will appear as Angelina at the English National Opera and Rosina at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto.
