Daryl Freedman Mezzo-soprano

Biography

Daryl Freedman is a graduate of the Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera where she sang the roles of Princess Eboli (Don Carlo), Gertrude (Hansel and Gretel), and Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro).

Past engagements include Fricka (Das Rheingold) at Virginia Opera, the title role of Julius Caesar at The Opera Atlanta, The Third Layd (The Magic Flute) at Metropolitan Opera in New York, Powerful Woman / Adelaide Johnson (Kamala Sankaram’s Rise) at Washington National Opera, Suor Dolcina (Suor Angelica) at the Salzburg Festival.

On the concert stage she debuted with the Erie Philharmonic in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, and performed with the Fairfax Symphony for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. During the 2022/23 season she made her role debut as Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) at the Maryland Lyric Opera. She then returned to the Cleveland Orchestra for Schubert’s Mass No. 6, performed at the Severance Hall and Carnegie Hall. She sang The Messiah at the Santa Fe Symphony and returned to the Metropolitan Opera for Amneris (Aida).

During the 2023/24 season, she sang The Third Lady and Ulrica at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as Amneris at the Chicago Lyric Opera.
