Biography

Clairemarie Osta received dance awards at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris and the Conservatoire Régional de Nice. She won the Grand Prize at the Mediterranean Competition in Grasse, as well as the Technique and Interpretation Prize and the Senior Bronze Medal at the Varna Competition.

Named Étoile at the Paris Opera Ballet in 2002 for her performance as Paquita, Clairemarie Osta has worked with Rudolf Nureyev, Carolyn Carlson, John Neumeier, Jiří Kylián, and Jerome Robbins. She has inspired many choreographers: Roland Petit created the role of Marie in Clavigo for her, while Angelin Preljocaj crafted L'Éveil in Siddhartha with her in mind. She originated roles in Amoveo by Benjamin Millepied, Appartement by Mats Ek, and Pas-Parts by William Forsythe. Jean-Claude Gallotta cast her as Nosferatu’s wife, and Nicolas Le Riche envisioned her as the Moon in Caligula.

Clairemarie Osta served as Director of Dance Studies in both classical and contemporary profiles at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris in 2012 and 2013. From 2018 to 2022, she was Head of the Ballet Department at the Royal Swedish Ballet School. She has also coached prestigious companies, including the Nureyev Foundation, the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Boston Ballet, the Paris Opera Ballet, and the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome.

In 2015, Clairemarie Osta co-founded LAAC – L’Atelier d’Art Chorégraphique at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, where she served as Artistic Director until 2019. She is currently Artistic Director and choreographer for L’autre moitié du songe…, inspired by the poetry of Alicia Gallienne, set to music by Simon Bång, in collaboration with the Institut Français of Stockholm and the National Museum.

She is also the choreographer of Wounded Words, an evening for the Ukrainian Spring Festival at the Confidencen Theatre in Ulriksdal Palace, Stockholm, in 2024. The same year, she is created the choreography for Pulcinella, directed by Guillaume Gallienne, premiering at the Opéra Comique and later performed by the Estonian Ballet in Tallinn in February 2025.

Clairemarie Osta has been honored as a Chevalier of Arts and Letters, a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, and an Officer of the Order of Merit.
