Christopher Maltman Baritone

Biography

After earning a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Warwick, Christopher Maltman studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music. He gained recognition by winning the Lieder Prize at the Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 1997. A Grammy Award winner, he performs on the world’s leading opera stages. In recent seasons, he has notably sung the roles of Leporello (Don Giovanni) in London and Vienna, Count di Luna (Il Trovatore) in Washington, Amfortas (Parsifal) in Geneva, Ford (Falstaff) in New York, Wotan (Die Walküre) in Naples and London, the title role in Rigoletto, Scarpia (Tosca) and Hans Sachs (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) in Berlin, Wotan (Das Rheingold) in London, Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) and Escamillo (Carmen) in Vienna, and Iago (Otello) and Jupiter (Love for Danae) in Munich. During the 2025–2026 season, he will perform, among other roles, Scarpia, Don Alfonso, and Don Pizarro (Fidelio) in Vienna, and the Wanderer (Siegfried) in London.
