Christian Gasc Costume designer

Biography

Born in 1945 and deceased in 2022, Christian Gasc received four César Awards, a Molière Award, and was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters. He worked with some of the greatest figures of French cinema, including François Truffaut, Jeanne Moreau, Jean-Luc Godard, Bertrand Blier, Claire Denis, Bertrand Tavernier, André Téchiné, Marie-France Pisier, Patrice Leconte, Sophie Barthes, and Benoît Jacquot.

In opera, he designed costumes for productions such as La Marquise d’Ô and Tosca in Monte Carlo, Marius et Fanny at the Marseille Opera, Peter Pan at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Tokyo, and Milan, The Ring Cycle, Andrea Chénier, and Falstaff at the Royal Opera of Wallonia, Cyrano de Bergerac in Montpellier and Seville, La Clemenza di Tito in Milan, Barbe-Bleue and Così fan tutte in Geneva, and Adriana Lecouvreur at the Mariinsky Theatre.

In theater, he created the costumes for productions such as L’Avare at the Comédie-Française, Un Chapeau de paille d’Italie and La Surprise de l’amour at the Théâtre National de Chaillot, L’Affaire de la rue de Lourcine and Ivanov at Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers, Mon père avait raison at the Bouffes Parisiens, Solness, le constructeur by Ibsen, Faust, L’Illusion comique, and Tête d’or at the Théâtre de l’Odéon.
