After graduating in performing arts from the École normale supérieure de Lyon, Antonio Cuenca Ruiz worked as a dramaturg at La Monnaie in Brussels until 2019. Since then, he has collaborated with various stage directors, in particular Peter Sellars, on La clemenza di Tito, Idomeneo, The Gambler, and Erwartung / Der Abschied at the Salzburg Festival, Kopernikus by Vivier at the Festival d’Automne in Paris, Médée at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, and The Nine Jewelled Deer at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
His recent projects include L’Autre voyage (a Schubert-based compilation) directed by Silvia Costa at the Opéra Comique, L’Incoronazione di Poppea directed by Ted Huffman, and Die Frau ohne Schatten directed by Barrie Kosky, both at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
In October 2024, he wrote new dialogues for Les Brigands, directed by Barrie Kosky at the Paris National Opera. In February 2025, he adapted and staged Così fan tutte under the title Così fan tutti, with the ensemble Miroirs Étendus.
