Biography

Anna-Sofia Kirsch studied stage design in Germany. She was subsequently hired as a set design assistant at Munich's Kammerspiele and Mannheim's National Theater. There, she worked with set designers such as Anna Viebrock and Herbert Murauer. Since 2020, she has been working as a freelance set designer, collaborating in particular with directors Krystian Lada and Yona Kim. With Victoria Stevens, she was awarded second prize in the European Opera Directing Prize 2022 (Opera Europa / Camerata Nuova) and designed the sets for The Fall of the House of Usher at the Hannover Staatsoper.

With Calixto Bieito, she has directed numerous productions, including Flammen at Prague National Opera, Eliogabalo at Zurich Opera, Les Vêpres de la Vierge and Jakob Lenz at Mannheim National Theater, and Mahomet II at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.
