Biography

Anna El-Khashem was born in Saint Petersburg. She has received numerous awards at various international competitions, including first prizes at the Elena Obraztsova International Competition, the Zara Dolukhanova International Art Songs Competition – Amber Nightingale (Königsberg), the International Mozart Competition (Salzburg, 2018) and the Neue Stimmen (2019). That same year, the magazine Opernwelt designated her “Emerging Opera Singer of the Year”. She made her debut at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory singing the role of Luisa in Prokofiev’s Betrothal in a Monastery and then appeared as Bastienne (Bastien und Bastienne) at the Bregenz Festival. She joined the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and, in 2017, she became a member of the troupe. Whilst there, she sang numerous roles, including Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro), the Mermaid (Oberon), Esmeralda (The Bartered Bride), Inès (La Favorite), and the Coryphaeus (Alceste). In 2019, she appeared as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at the New Generation Festival in Florence. She then joined the troupe of the Wiesbaden Opera where she sang the roles of Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), The First Niece (Peter Grimes) and the part of the soprano in a stage version of the St Matthew Passion.
