Biography

Anita Hartig was born in Romania and made her stage debut singing the role of Mimi (La Bohème) at the Cluj-Napoca Romanian National Opera. She has won prizes at several singing competitions: the Hariclea Darclée, and the Braila in 2005, the Ionel Perlea in 2008, and the International Voice Competition of the Bucharest Opera House in 2009. From 2009 to 2014, she was a member of the Vienna Staatsoper troupe. During that time, she sang the roles of Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Musetta and Mimi (La Bohème), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) Despina (Così fan tutte), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) and Micaela (Carmen). She has made guest appearances at many of the great international opera venues (Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper, the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens, London’s Royal Opera House, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Hamburg Staatsoper, Milan’s La Scala, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and the New York Metropolitan Opera). She has also sung under the direction of conductors like Adam Fischer, Franz Welser-Möst, Daniele Rustioni, Carlo Rizzi, Dan Ettinger, Daniel Oren, Mark Elder, Marco Armiliato, and Ivor Bolton. She made debut appearances at London’s Royal Opera House, Milan’s La Scala, the Paris Opera and New York’s Metropolitan Opera in La Bohème. In addition, she sang the roles of Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Metropolitan Opera and London’s Royal Opera House, Violetta (La Traviata) at the Metropolitan Opera, the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and the Paris Opera, Micaela (Carmen) at the Vienna Staatsoper and for her San Francisco Opera debut, Amelia (Simon Boccanegra) at the Metropolitan Opera and the Paris Opera, Mimi in Vienna, New York, at the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Berlin Staatsoper, Liù (Turandot) and Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the Metropolitan Opera, and Marguerite (Faust) in Zurich, Vienna and Hamburg. During the 2019-2020 season, she gave debut performances at the Royal Opera House in Muscat (Micaela) and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Liù). She also sang the role of the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera.
