Greek bass Alexandros Stavrakakis began his musical education at an early age, receiving piano lessons from his mother. At the age of eight, he joined the ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation) Children’s Choir, and two years later, the Manolis Kalomiris Children’s Choir at the National Conservatory. In 2014, he graduated with distinction and a special award, receiving the Maria Callas scholarship.
He won first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019 and is a member of the ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden, where his roles have included Chelio (The Love for Three Oranges), Philip II (Don Carlo), and Colline (La Bohème). In recent seasons, he has made debuts at major houses such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Rome Opera, the Verbier Festival, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Greek National Opera and at the Megaron in Athens, and has taken part in numerous broadcasts and recitals in Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Syros, Corfu, Kefalonia, Delphi, Dresden, Berlin, Baden-Baden, Kaiserslautern, Landau, Bad Elster, and Istanbul, collaborating with orchestras such as the ERT Greek Symphony Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Philharmonie Orchester SWR, and the Staatskapelle Dresden. Last season, Alexandros Stavrakakis made significant role and house debuts, including Hermann (Tannhäuser) at Houston Grand Opera and Vodník (Rusalka) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
He has sung a new work by Fazıl Say and Mozart’s Requiem with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. During the 2025–2026 season, he will perform Colline at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Alidoro (La Cenerentola) at the Baden-Baden Festival, the title role in Boris Godunov at the Royal Opera House in London, and the King of Egypt (Aida) at the Semperoper Dresden.
Debut at the Opéra national de Paris.
