Adela Zaharia Soprano

Biography

Born in Romania, Adela Zaharia is the winner of the 2012 Hariclea Darclée International Voice Competition and the 2017 Operalia Plácido Domingo Singing competition. After her professional debut at the Berlin Komische Oper and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, she was invited by the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona to sing Pamina (The Magic Flute).

Her appearances include Violetta (La Traviata), the title role in Maria Stuarda, Konstanze (Il Seraglio), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Gilda (Rigoletto) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor and Angelica (Orlando paladino) at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Gilda and Violetta in Los Angeles, Pamina at the Edinburgh Festival and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. She took part in the world premiere of Iain Bell’s Aurora, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. In the 2019-20 season, she made her role debut as Elvira (I Puritani) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.

Recently, she made her stage debut at Teatro Real Madrid and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), and took part in the creation of 7 Deaths of Maria Callas in Munich and at Deutsche Oper, Berlin. In the beginning of the 2021 season, she portrayed Donna Anna in Amsterdam. She also sung Donna Anna at San Francisco Opera, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor at Deutsche Oper Berlin and Konstanze in Hamburg.

During the 2023/24 season, she is - among other engagements - Gilda at Teatro Real Madrid, Violetta at Dutch National Opera Lucia at Deutsche Oper Berlin and Konstanze in Frankfurt.
