BOOK A VISIT

PROJECT 12 exhibition at the Palais Garnier

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Palais Garnier in 2025, the Paris Opera and the Arop (Association for the Outreach of the Paris Opera) have launched a unique initiative: PROJECT 12, an exceptional artist residency at the heart of the iconic Parisian monument.

The result of this project is a collection of 12 exclusive works, inspired by the artists’ unique experience and the singular atmosphere of the Palais Garnier—just as their 19th-century predecessors drew inspiration from Garnier’s lines and volumes to shape their creations.

These works, which represent a true dialogue between the past and the present, are presented during a public exhibition at the Palais Garnier from October 21 to 30, 2026. This exhibition takes place as part of Art Basel Paris, headlight event of the contemporary art market.

For this exhibition, architect Aline Asmar d’Amman has conceived a scenography that creates a dialogue between the theatre’s spectacular architecture and the ceiling painted by Isidore Alexandre-Auguste Pils, on the one hand, and contemporary art on the other.

The 12 works will be offered at Sotheby’s “Modern & Contemporary Art” auction in Paris on Thursday, December 3, 2026, at 2:30 pm.

This event will offer patrons and art enthusiasts the opportunity to support contemporary creation and contribute to the influence of the Paris Opera, while perpetuating the artistic tradition that has shaped this legendary venue.
