Built by the architect Charles Garnier, the Palais Garnier has been one of the architectural jewels of Paris since its inauguration in 1875. Recent restauration projects have enhanced this sumptuous palace of marble and gold with all the splendour of its grand staircase and its foyers, abundantly decorated with paintings, sculptures and mosaics.
A ticket for the unguided visit includes access to the publics areas, namely:
The Opera’s Library-Museum (The French National Library (BnF), the permanent collection, set models and art works), the Members’ Rotunda, the Bassin de la Pythie, the Grand Staircase, the Grand Foyer, the Avant Foyer, the Salon de la lune, the Salon du soleil, and the Rotonde du Glacier with its tapestries. A visitor’s ticket also gives access to the temporary exhibitions when they scheduled.
The Palais Garnier is open for visits every day from 10 am to 5 pm – last admissions at 4 pm for an audioguided visit (except on matinée performance days and exceptional closures).
