Amphithéâtre Olivier Messiaen - from 23 to 25 February 2017

Synopsis

The Cotton Club, the Savoy Ballroom… New York’s legendary jazz clubs of the 1920s and 1930s where, united by music and dance, a new community of men and women were able to enjoy themselves freely. The American choreographer Andrew Skeels and composer Antoine Hervé have recreated the atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties in a performance brimming with energy, enthusiasm and audacity. Punctuated by virtuoso melodies reminiscent of Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and George Gershwin, the choreography draws upon the wellspring of hip hop and feeds on the many technical and aesthetical aspects of dance (lindy hop, tap dance…) to celebrate a turbulent yet exhilarating past.
