Biography

Xabier Anduaga was born in San Sebastian in 1995 and studied at the Musikene (the Higher School of Music of the Basque Country). He attended the masterclasses of Ernesto Palacio, Alberto Zedda, Ana Luisa Chova and Juan Diego Flórez and in 2016, he was selected by the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro where he made his debut performing the role of Belfiore in Il viaggio a Reims. During the 2016-2017 season, he played Ramiro in La Cenerentola at the ABBAO in Bilbao and Adraste in Siège de Corinthe at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro. He also took part in the Francisco Viñas Singing Competition where he won five awards. He has performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor), the Mikhailovsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg (Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia), the National Auditorium in Madrid (Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle), the Budapest Festival (Fenton in Falstaff under the direction of Ivan Fischer), the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (Lindoro in L’Italiana in Algeri), and the Musikverein in Vienna (Belfiore). More recently, he sang the roles of Ernesto (Ricciardo e Zoraide) at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, Leicester (Il Castello di Kenilworth) at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo, Ramiro at the Teatro Verdi in Padua, Almaviva at the NCPA in Beijing and the Teatro Regio in Parma, Nemorino (L’Elisir d’amore) in Palma, Majorca, and Lindoro at the Teatro Regio in Turin. In July 2019, he won First Prize at the Operalia Competition. This season, he made his Paris Opera debut in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He also sang the roles of Almaviva at the Rouen Opera and in Dallas, Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Ramiro at the Staatsoper in Hamburg, Gennaro (Lucrezia Borgia) in Bergamo, Belfiore at the Cologne Opera, the title role in Comte Ory at the Teatro São Carlos in Lisbon and Fenton at the Lille Opera.
