Biography

Since 1979, Wolfgang Gussmann has been working as a set and costume designer, mostly with stage directors Willy Decker and Andreas Homoki. He has worked on more than 150 productions at the Vienna Staatsoper, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Dreseden Semperoper, the Stuttgart Staatsoper, the Deutsche Oper and the Komische Oper in Berlin, the Ruhrtriennale, the Salzburg Festival, the Leipzig Opera, the Paris Opera (Eugene Onegin, Lulu, Boris Godunov, The Flying Dutchman, La ville morte, Bruno Mantovani’s creation Akhmatova), at the Théâtre du Chatelet, the Amsterdam Nederland Opera, la Scala de Milan, and in the opera houses of Florence, Bologna, Venice, Genoa, Naples, Geneva, Lyon, Montpellier, Seville, Oslo, Copenhagen, Anvers, at the Gran Theatre del Liceu in Barcelona, at the Teatro Real in Madrid, the La Monnaie in Brussels, the Santa Fe Opera Festival, the San Francisco Opera and the New York Metropolitan Opera.
