Winona Berry Mezzo-soprano

Biography

Artist in residence at the Academy since September 2026

Born in Saint Barthélemy, Winona Berry graduated in classical singing from the Bordeaux Regional Conservatoire (CRR).

In 2025, she joined the Génération Opéra programme and took part with the Bordeaux Opera Academy in the production Lakmé revisited, performing the roles of Mallika and Mr Benson. In July 2026, she performed the title role of Carmen at the closing event of the Escapades Musicales festival in Cap Ferret. She has also distinguished herself in the roles of Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), and the title roles of Carmen and La Belle Hélène.

A prize-winner in several competitions, she received the Grand Prix des Voix des Outre-Mer (2024), the Michèle Herbé “Rising Talent” Prize at the Nuits Lyriques de Marmande (2025), the “Marianna” Jury Prize at the Saisons de la Voix de Gordes (2025), as well as awards at the Raymond Duffaut Competition in Avignon, the Clermont-Ferrand Competition, the Gordes Competition, the Arles Competition, and the Cagnes-sur-Mer Competition.

Winona Berry joined the Academy of the Paris National Opera in September 2026.
