Biography

Rufus Didwiszus studied set and costume design in Stuttgart with Jürgen Rose. Since then, he has worked with directors such as Barrie Kosky, Thomas Ostermeier, Christian Spuck, Sasha Waltz, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Evgeny Titov. His numerous creations for opera, dance and theater include Lessons in Love and Violence, Boris Godunov and La Fille du Far-West at the Zurich Opera, The Marriage of Figaro at the Vienna Staatsoper, La Cage aux Folles at the Komische Oper Berlin, Fiddler on the Roof at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Kátia Kabanová and Orphée aux enfers at the Salzburg Festival, Tosca at the National Opera Amsterdam, The Knight of the Rose at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Orlando at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, The Golden Cockerel at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and the Adelaide Festival, Sleeping Beauty for Zurich Ballet, The Flying Dutchman at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Medea at the Stockholm Opera and Blood Wedding for the Sydney Theatre Company. With artist Joanna Dudley, he has presented his own music-theater works at the Sophiensaele and Schaubühne in Berlin, as well as at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
