Biography

As particularly sought after performer of Mozart and Rossini, Rachel Frenkel has performed their works at the Staatsoper Munich, Lyric Opera Chicago, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, at Edinburgh Festival, Mostly Mozart Festival (New York), Glyndebourne Festival… 

Recently, she appeared as Dryade and Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) at La Scala in Milan, Olga (Eugene Onegin) and Isabella (Italiana in Algeri) at Israeli Opera, Idamante (Idomeneo) with the Balthasar Neumann Ensembles and Thomas Hengelbrock at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and performed Beethoven‘s Missa Solemnis with Concerto Köln and Kent Nagano, Beethoven’s Mass in C with the BBC Philharmonic under Omer Meir Wellber, Bernstein’s Songfest with the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Bach's Magnificat with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater with Camerata Salzburg, Bernstein's Symphony no 1, or “Jeremiah” with the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo and the Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, Mallika in Delibes’ Lakmé with the BR Rundfunkorchester Munich. 

A former member of the Vienna Staatsoper Ensemble, she appeared there in the roles of Komponist, Angelina (La Cenerentola), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), Fenena (Nabucco), Stephano (Romeo and Juliet), Wellgunde (Rheingold and Götterdämmerung), Siebel (Faust), Ascanio (Les Troyens), Ruggiero (Alcina), Idamante, Lea (Die Weiden by Johannes Maria Staud) and Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). 

She also performed at the Bregenz Festival, Salzburg Festival, Staatsoper Hamburg, the Salzburg Easter Festival, and has worked with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Sir Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel, Ivan Fischer, Robin Ticciati, Daniel Barenboim, Ivor Bolton, Ingo Metzmacher, Simone Young and Emmanuelle Haïm.
