Paul Carey Jones Bass baritone

Biography

Born in Wales, baritone-bass Paul Carey Jones performs on major international opera stages. His roles have included the Dutchman (The Flying Dutchman), Hans Sachs (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), Amfortas (Parsifal), Donner (Das Rheingold), Gunther (Götterdämmerung), Peter (Hänsel und Gretel), Scarpia (Tosca), Marcello (La Bohème), Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), the title role in Don Giovanni, Der Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte), the Gamekeeper (The Little Foxes) and Balstrode (Peter Grimes). He has also performed numerous times in the role of Wotan (The Ring), including at the Longborough Opera Festival in 2024.

He also appears frequently in concert, performing works such as Brahms’ A German Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and Bach’s St John and St Matthew Passions. He won the Wagner Society Singing Competition in 2013 and was recently elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in recognition of his contribution to the classical music industry.
