Biography

After studying theatre at the Lycée Saint Sernin in Toulouse under the direction of Sébastien Bournac, in 2010 Paul Balagué began a master’s degree followed by a doctorate in Theatre Studies at the University of Paris III – Sorbonne Nouvelle. He enriched his studies with internships in theatrical sponsorship and drama at the Théâtre de la Colline, then at the Théâtre du Soleil where he followed the development of a production of Macbeth. During this period he also worked as a stage manager and programmer at Festivals like the Franco-Gourmandes Festival and the Théâtrales in Couserans. He also took part in the foundation of the Compagnie en Eaux Troubles, with whom, between 2012 and 2014, he directed three productions: Dans la brume, les morts, Of Mice and Men and Wozzeck and toured in France. He was then admitted to the Clause Mathieu School in 2014 where he trained in acting under the direction of Teddy Melis, Marc Schapira, Odile Burley, Isabelle Brochard and Georges Werler. He has taken part in other projects such as Tristan, an opera directed by Ludovic Heime at the Kantor Theatre at the ENS in Lyon. He was then invited to the Théâtre du Soleil to stage a production of Merlin by Tankred Dorst. He has taken part in other courses on theatrical direction with Ariane Mnouchkine, Jean-Yves Ruf and at the Odin Teatret. From September 2017, he will be in residence at the Paris Opera Academy.
