Patrick Lang is an Associate Professor accredited to supervise doctoral research (HDR) in Philosophy and Music at Nantes Université.
Trained in orchestral and choral conducting under Sergiu Celibidache and his assistant Konrad von Abel, he worked as an orchestral and choral conductor and as a chamber music teacher at the Malakoff Conservatory from 1993 to 1999.
From 2004 to 2006, he served as an Advisor for Arts and Cultural Education at the French Ministry of Culture. He has conducted several choirs in Paris and throughout France, before founding the Chœur des Humanités at Nantes Université in 2010. He was also a guest conductor at the Nantes Regional Conservatory (CRR) in 2011–2012.
His research and teaching in philosophy focus on value ethics, the phenomenology of emotions, and the phenomenology of music. In addition to numerous specialist articles and translations, he co-authored with Hadrien France-Lanord Sergiu Celibidache, La musique n'est rien. Textes et entretiens pour une phénoménologie de la musique, published by Actes Sud in Arles in 2012.
