Ning Liang Mezzo-soprano

Biography

After earning a master’s degree at the Juilliard School, Ning Liang has performed on major opera stages around the world.

She is a prizewinner of the Metropolitan National Council Competition, the Musician’s Emergency Fund, as well as the Mirjam Helin, Rosa Ponselle, Loren L. Zachary, and Luciano Pavarotti competitions.

Her repertoire includes Sesto (La clemenza di Tito), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), Juno and Ino (Semele), Arsace (Semiramis), Isabella (L’Italiana in Algeri), Charlotte (Werther), Giovanna (Anna Bolena), Adalgisa (Norma), Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Azucena (Il Trovatore), Preziosilla (La forza del destino), Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Octavia (The Coronation of Poppea), Sesto (Giulio Cesare), Orpheus (Orfeo ed Euridice), Fricka (Die Walküre), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Marie (The Flying Dutchman), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), the Shaman (The First Emperor by Tan Dun), Lu (Tea by Tan Dun), and the title roles of Xerxes, Tancredi, and Carmen. A distinguished interpreter of Mahler, she has recorded his Second Symphony, Eighth Symphony, and Das Lied von der Erde.
