Mikko Franck began his career as a conductor at the age of seventeen and has conducted numerous orchestras in concert halls and opera houses around the world. From 2002 to 2007, he served as music director of the National Orchestra of Belgium. In 2006, he began working as general music director of the Finnish National Opera. The following year, he was appointed its artistic director, holding both positions until 2013.
Mikko Franck became music director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in 2015. During the ten years of his tenure, he actively championed and exemplified the eclectic nature of its programming and led the orchestra on several tours across Europe as well as to Asia. His extensive discography includes both symphonic works and operas. His most recent recordings are devoted to Franck, Debussy, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, and Strauss.
In 2018, Mikko Franck was appointed ambassador for UNICEF France and carried out missions in Senegal and Benin. In 2023, the President of the Republic of Finland awarded him the Pro Finlandia Medal of the Order of the Lion of Finland.
