Micaela Taylor Choreographer

Biography

Born in 1993, Micaela Taylor is a dancer and choreographer based in Los Angeles, California.

Trained in hip-hop and classical dance beginning in 1998 at the Marat Daukayev School and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, she has developed her own dance language, called “Expand Practice”, exuding emotion from the core and creating varied physical shapes and textures as expressions of one’s authentic self.

In 2016, she founded her own company, TL Collective. Her style is characterized by exaggerated facial expressions, theatrical gestures, and theatrical athleticism.

Micaela Taylor’s works have been presented at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the Broad Stage, the Ford Amphitheater, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Wallis Annenberg, Sadler’s Wells, and New York City Center.

In addition, she has recently been commissioned to create choreographies for NDT 2 (Lights, Camera, Dismantled, 2023), Ballet BC, the English National Ballet, and many other companies.

She received the first Springboard EMERGE Choreographic Award and was named to Dance magazine’s “25 to Watch” list in 2019. She appeared on the cover of Dance magazine in April 2020 and was awarded the Harkness Promise Award.
