Biography

Marion Stienne began her musical training studying the violin at the Regional Conservatory in Toulouse. Soon thereafter, she developed an interest for the viola and, in 2006, she joined the class of Louis Merlet. In 2007, she won Third Prize in France’s national competition for young violists and was awarded the Aida Scholarship from the Toulouse-based Orchestre national du Capitole which resulted in an internship with the orchestra. In 2009, she entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon in the class of J.P. Vasseur. In 2012, she was selected by the International Max Rostal Competition and earned her degree at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse. That same year, she took part in a series of master classes with Jenifer Gilbert, played solo viola for the Orchestre National de Lyon in Japan, took up chamber music with Marc Desmons, and played solo viola for the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2014, she earned her Masters at Lyon's Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse and joined the viola desk of the Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine. In October 2015, she entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris to hone her skills on the viola in the generative improvisation class of Alexandros Markeas and Vincent Le Quang. During the 2016 / 2017 season, she is in residence at the Paris Opera Academy.
