Born in Rostock, Germany, Manu Halligan studied artistic makeup.
Familiar with the work of Robert Wilson, she began to collaborate with him on productions like Shakespear’s Sonnets and Peter Pan in Berlin. She was the makeup artist for his revival of Einstein on the Beach in Kwangju in 2015. She also worked on Robert Wilson’s productions of Pushkin’s Fairy Tales at the Theatre of Nations in Moscow (2015), Edda at the Oslo Norwegian Theater (2017), The Sandman at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus (2017), The Jungle Book at the Grand Théâtre de la Ville in Luxembourg and Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus (2019).
More recently, she worked on Handel’s Messiah, performed in 2020 in Salzburg. Manu Halligan is also a makeup artist in shows performed by Robert Wilson himself. Her portfolio also includes American movies like The Hunger Games, Point Break and A Cure for Wellness, and she also works on series like The Queen’s Gambit and The Empress, or for ceremonies with photographers like Jim Rakete. Last year, she worked on the movie The Promised Land.
