Artist in Residence at the Academy since September 2026
After studying music at a regional conservatory, Madeleine Tessier earned a National Diploma in Art and Design from Lycée La Martinière Diderot in Lyon, where she wrote a dissertation on exoticism in late nineteenth-century colonial theatre. She is currently pursuing studies in the performing arts at Université Lumière Lyon 2.
She has worked as an assistant costume designer on several stage productions, notably Romeo Castellucci’s production of Bérénice, starring Isabelle Huppert, and Nelvar – le royaume sans peuple by Logan de Carvalho and Margaux Desailly. In 2024, she also collaborated with the Shizuoka Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Japan.
Alongside her creative work, she is developing a critical reflection on the social and political dimensions of theatrical aesthetics. In 2022, she took part in the exhibition “Autels Garnis” at the Centre d’Art Contemporain de Mana in French Guiana.
Madeleine Tessier joined the Paris Opera Academy in September 2026.
