Laurent Guido is a film and media historian and Professor at Sorbonne Nouvelle University (Paris). His research explores the connections between visual culture, the body and music, as well as theories of spectacle in the context of mass culture. He is the author of, among other works, L’Âge du rythme (Payot, 2007; reissued in 2014), Mythologies du film musical (Presses du réel, 2016, with M. Chabrol), De Wagner au cinéma (Mimesis, 2019), and Cinéma, mythe et idéologie. Échos de Wagner chez H.-J. Syberberg et Werner Herzog (Hermann, 2020).
He is currently researching the relationship between music and violence in cinema and is preparing a book on the relationship between gestural attractions (dance, sport and music hall) and cinema in the early 20th century.
