Julia Bullock Soprano

Biography

Julia Bullock has been artist in residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Cal Performances in Berkeley, and the San Francisco Symphony. She has recently appeared in Antony and Cleopatra and El Niño by John Adams at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and created roles in Fire Shut Up in My Bones by Terence Blanchard, Upload by Michel van der Aa, and Girls of the Golden West by John Adams.

She has also performed in concert with various orchestras, as a soloist with the American Modern Opera Company, and in recital at Carnegie Hall, Disney Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Wigmore Hall in London. She developed History’s Persistent Voice, El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered, and Perle Noire: Meditations for Joséphine.

During the 2025–2026 season, she premieres Song of the Reappeared by Matthew Aucoin with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a new commission by Tania León during a solo recital tour in the United States. She performs the role of the Woman (La Voix humaine) in Gävle, Sweden, and serves as curator of the May Festival in Cincinnati. She received the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album for her recording Walking in the Dark.

Debut at the Paris Opera.
