Jessica Wright Choreographer

Biography

Jessica Wright trained at the Central School of Ballet before joining the D.A.N.C.E. company, directed by Wayne McGregor, William Forsythe, Frédéric Flamand, and Angelin Preljocaj. She danced with Company Wayne McGregor for eleven years, creating roles in works such as Entity, Dyad 1909, FAR, UNDANCE, Atomos, Autobiography, and Tree of Codes.

Jessica Wright is now a director, choreographer, and filmmaker. She co-directs and choreographs in collaboration with Morgann Runacre-Temple under the name Jess & Morgs.

Their productions have been presented on Channel 4, BBC iPlayer, TATE Liverpool, the Venice Biennale, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Sadler’s Festival. Their reinterpretation of Coppélia for Scottish Ballet won the 2023 UK Theatre Award for Achievement in Dance, the Critics' Circle National Dance Award for Best Classical Choreography, and was nominated for the South Bank Sky Arts Award.

Jessica Wright continues to work closely with Wayne McGregor, staging works internationally for companies such as The Royal Ballet, the Hungarian National Ballet, and the Norwegian National Ballet. She has created new works for SWM at Jacob's Pillow, Trinity Laban, and Elmhurst Ballet School. In 2021, she curated a dance film program for the Biennale Danza in Venice.

Jess & Morgs’ films include Tremble (Scottish Ballet), Curing Albrecht, Cinderella Games, and An Evening with Taglioni (English National Ballet). They directed Scottish Ballet’s first feature film, The Secret Theatre, which won Best Dance Film at the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards.

They were nominated by the Critics’ Circle at the 2021 National Dance Awards for Outstanding Creative Contribution.
