Jean-François Borras performs on the world’s leading opera stages. His repertoire includes the roles of Raimbaut (Robert le Diable), Chevalier des Grieux (Manon), Alfredo (La Traviata), Chevalier de La Force (Dialogues des Carmélites), Macduff (Macbeth), Ismaele (Nabucco), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Béatrice and Bénédict’s Bénédict (Béatrice et Bénédict), Nicias (Thaïs), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), and the title role in Werther.
In 2014, he replaced Jonas Kaufmann in Werther at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he has since returned as the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Rodolfo, and Nicias. He has sung Don José (Carmen) in Frankfurt, Turin, Toulouse, Valladolid, Hamburg, Naples, and Nice; Faust (The Damnation of Faust) and the title role in Werther in Monte Carlo; Lensky (Eugene Onegin) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; a concert version of Hérodiade at the Opéra national de Lyon and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana) in Venice; and Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca) in Dijon.
During the 2025–2026 season, he will notably sing Nicias in Toulouse, Don José in Salerno and Venice, and Jason (Medea) in Athens.
