Born in Paris, Jean-Jacques Delmotte studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and fashion at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. He designs costumes for theater, contemporary dance, and opera. He has collaborated with director Laurent Pelly for over 20 years, co-designing costumes for more than 25 productions.
He also works with Yves Lenoir, Julien Chavaz, and Timothy Sheader. His recent projects include Clivia at the Theatre of Magdeburg, Rigoletto at the National Opera of Ireland and Santa Fe, La Ville morte at the National Opera of Korea, Macbeth, Nabucco, Les Capulet et les Montaigu, and Jeanne d’Arc at the TOBS Stadttheater Biel, Jenůfa at the Opera de Dijon, and Don Pasquale at the National Opera of Lorraine.
His recent collaborations with Laurent Pelly include Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Royal Danish Opera, Eugene Onegin in Brussels, Copenhagen, and Valencia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Lille, Lausanne, Matsumoto, and Seville, La Voix humaine and Les Mamelles de Tirésias at the Glyndebourne Festival, Il Turco in Italia in Madrid, Lyon, and at the New National Theatre Tokyo, as well as Le Roi Carotte and Barbe-Bleue in Lyon.
Debut at the Paris Opera.
