Jean-François Verdier Conductor

Biography

Super-soloist at the Paris National Opera for 20 years, Jean-François Verdier is now an internationally renowned conductor.
He is also a professor at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM). As Music Director of the Orchestre Victor Hugo, the most recently established permanent orchestra in France, he has recorded 24 albums in 8 years with the ensemble, earning numerous distinctions across Europe (German Critics’ Award, BBC’s Choice, Time’s Choice, Choc Classica, Diapason d’Or, Choc Jazz Mag, Diamond Disc, and more).

He is invited to perform in major international venues: BR Munich, Tokyo, Vienna, Opéra de Paris, Warsaw, Nagoya, Antwerp, Beijing, Mexico City, Madrid, Moscow Bolshoi, Brussels, Lausanne, Philharmonie de Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Châtelet, La Folle Journée, Festival Berlioz, among others.

He has collaborated with world-famous artists such as Renée Fleming (with whom he recorded an Imax feature film), Susan Graham, Piotr Beczała, Thomas Hampson, Ludovic Tézier, Alexandre Kantorow, Marc Coppey, and many others.

As a composer for young audiences, his works have been performed at the Opéra Bastille (Auditorium), Philharmonie de Paris, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, BR Rundfunk Munich, Dessau Opera, Opéra National du Rhin, and Capitole de Toulouse.

In 2024, he founded the first international composition competition for young composers.
He is an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters.

For the Paris National Opera, he has conducted Werther (2009), Les Enfants du Paradis (2011, 2013, 2015), Così fan tutte with the Academy (2015), Soirées ATDK (2018), and Notre-Dame de Paris (2021).
