Jean-Francois Candoni

Biography
Jean-François Candoni is a Professor of German Studies at university level and Director of the Presses Universitaires de Rennes. A specialist in musical aesthetics and the history of German opera, he has published, among other works, Penser la musique au siècle du romantisme (PUPS, 2012), Les Grands Centres musicaux du monde germanique (PUPS, 2014), Verdi/Wagner : images croisées (PUR, 2018, with Hervé Lacombe and Timothée Picard), and Beethoven, compositeur autrichien ? (PURH, 2023).
He contributed to the Dictionnaire encyclopédique Wagner (Actes Sud, 2010), edited a new translation of Richard Wagner’s My Life (Gallimard, 2013), and regularly contributes to L’Avant-Scène Opéra.
