Jay Gower Taylor Set designer
Biography
As a scenic designer, Jay Gower Taylor has collaborated with Crystal Pite for nearly two decades, creating onstage environments for works such as Figures in Extinction, Plot Point, Frontier, Solo Echo, Parade, In the Event, Partita for 8 Dancers and The Statement for Nederlands Dans Theater; Emergence and Angels’ Atlas (a co-production with Ballett Zürich) for The National Ballet of Canada; Polaris for Sadler’s Wells Theatre; The Seasons’ Canon and Body and Soul for Paris Opera Ballet and Light of Passage for The Royal Ballet.
For Pite’s own company, Kidd Pivot, he designed Dark Matters, The Tempest Replica, Betroffenheit, Revisor and Assembly Hall.
It was in 2016, for the creation of The Seasons’ Canon, that Jay Gower Taylor originated his theatrical application of reflected light. Since then, he has continued to develop this morphing analog expression to breathtaking effect on stages worldwide.
