Biography

Born in South Korea in 1994, Jaewon Kim obtained a degree in music from the National University of the Arts in Korea and a Master’s at the Paris Conservatoire where she studied with Svetlin Roussev. In 2008, she won 3rd prize and the prize for virtuosity at the Kloster Schontal International Violin Competition; in 2012 she was awarded 2nd prize and the Special Prize at the Lipizer International Violin Competition, followed in 2013 by 3rd prize at the International String Competition in Shoenfeld and, in 2017, 2nd prize at the International Violin Competition in Sofia. She has performed in concert at the Great Mountains Music Festival in South Korea and as a soloist with orchestras such as the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, the China National Youth Orchestra, the Tianjin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bamberg Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also taken part in master classes and concerts during festivals and residences including the Crans-Montana Classics, the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Ishikawa Music Academy at which, in 2010, she was awarded the IMA prize; the International Music Festival in Montecito and the Tibor Varga Academy in Sion. During the 2016/2017 season she was a member of the Academy of the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. She joins the Paris Opera Academy in September 2017.
