Biography

Born in Milan, fashion designer and costume designer Jacques Reynaud studied in New York. Recognised throughout Europe, he began his career designing costumes for Luca Ronconi’s production of Peer Gynt in Rome.

His collaboration with Robert Wilson began in the 1990s, notably in Germany, on productions including Bertolt Brecht’s Ozeanflug at the Berliner Ensemble, The Days Before and POEtry at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, and Dr. Caligari at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. These were followed by Georg Büchner’s Leonce and Lena and William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, both at the Berliner Ensemble.

He designed the costumes for Macbeth in São Paulo and at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2011, The Old Woman, starring Willem Dafoe and Mikhail Baryshnikov, in 2013, and Letter to a Man, again featuring Baryshnikov, in 2015. He also collaborated on The Coronation of Poppea at La Scala in Milan in 2016, Otello at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival, and The Jungle Book and Mary Said What She Said, starring Isabelle Huppert, at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris in 2019.
