Jacob Mallinson Bird is a lecturer in music at Queen’s and Somerville Colleges at the University of Oxford, an affiliated lecturer at the Faculty of Music at the University of Cambridge, and Praeceptor at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. As an academic, his research has focused on drag-sync performances and has been published in Sound Studies and Contemporary Music Review, with a monograph forthcoming from Bloomsbury Academic.
His current research continues his interest in queer performance, focusing on the intersections between contemporary noise music and queer theory. As a dramaturg, he made his debut in 2024 with Le Nozze di Figaro at Little Island (New York). As a research assistant, he has worked with Anthony Roth Costanzo on his forthcoming book Countertenor and with the Philadelphia Opera on their 2024 production of The Listeners.
He also performs under the pseudonym Dinah Lux as a pianist and cabaret artist, earning coverage in Vogue, Dazed, i-D, and Another Man.
Debut at the Paris National Opera.
