Biography
Artist in residence at the Academy since September 2026
Ivan Valem began studying the viola at the age of five at the Arpajon Conservatoire. He continued his training at the Orsay Departmental Conservatoire (CRD), the Boulogne-Billancourt Regional Conservatoire (CRR), and the Gennevilliers Departmental Conservatoire (CRD), where he studied with Corentin Bordelot, who prepared him for the entrance examination to the Paris Conservatoire (Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris). In 2025, he was admitted to the Conservatoire, where he studies with David Gaillard.
In 2023, he received the Best Young Talent Prize at the French National Young Viola Competition. The same year, he joined the Academy of the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France before becoming a member of the Orchestre Français des Jeunes in 2025 and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester in 2026.
Ivan Valem joined the Academy of the Paris National Opera in September 2026.
