Isabel Leonard Mezzo-soprano

Biography

Born in New York, Isabel Leonard is a graduate of the Julliard Scholl Master of Music Program and has studied with Marilyn Horne, Brian Zeger, Warren Jones, Margo Garrett, Denise Massé and Janine Reiss. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2007 as Stéphano (Romeo and Juliet). The winner of three Grammy Awards, she has since appeared on the world's major opera stages. In the 2024-2025 season, she will make her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu as Anita (West Side Story) under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel.

She returns to Houston Grand Opera to sing Angelina (La Cenerentola), directed by Joan Font. She makes her directorial debut for Cinderella at the Houston Grand Opera Family Day. She also appeared at the Metropolitan Opera as Rosina (The Barber of Seville), directed by Bartlett Sher. Concert appearances include Berlioz's Les Nuits d'été with the New York Philharmonic under Kevin John Edusei, and Mahler's Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” under Courtney Lewis. She also continues her collaboration with guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas, performing their all-Spanish program at the Gallo Center for the Performing arts. Finally, she performs in recital in Cincinnati, Mexico City, São Paulo and Río de Janeiro.
