Biography

Member of the Paris Opera Chorus

Born in 1983, South Korean baritone Hyun Sik Zee graduated in Christian music from Seoul Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in 2010. He continued his musical studies at the National University of the Arts, where he validated his diploma in opera singing, lieder and oratorio (2013). In 2014, he moved to France and joined the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris (concert diploma in 2016), then the Conservatoire à rayonnement départemental de L'Haÿ-les-Roses (diploma in musical studies in 2017). Hyun Sik Zee is a prizewinner in a number of opera competitions, including the British & American Vocal Society Competition, and the Concours Français des Maîtres du Chant.

From 2011 onwards, he performs numerous operatic roles (Escamillo in Carmen, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Germont in La Traviata...), from Los Angeles (Zipper and Walt Disney Concert Hall) to Seoul (Arts Center). He also appears in concert as a soloist, notably in Mahler's Songs of a Wandering Companion (Ponychunghall, Seoul), Mendelssohn's Elias (Knua Hall, Seoul), Bach's Mass in B minor and Mozart's Coronation Mass (Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles). Since 2017, Hyun Sik Zee has been a permanent member of the Chœurs de l'Opéra national de Paris.
