Member of the Chœurs de l’Opéra national de Paris
Born in 1983, South Korean baritone Hyunsik Zee earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2010 from the Seoul Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary. He continued his studies at the Korea National University of Arts, where he completed a degree in vocal performance, lied, and oratorio in 2013. In 2014, he moved to France and entered the Paris Regional Conservatory (receiving a concert diploma in 2016), then the L’Haÿ-les-Roses Departmental Conservatory (Diploma of Musical Studies in 2017).
He is a prizewinner of several competitions, including the British & American Vocal Society Competition and the French “Maîtres du Chant” Competition.
From 2011 onward, he has performed numerous operatic roles (Escamillo in Carmen, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Germont in La Traviata, among others), appearing in venues ranging from the Walt Disney Concert Hall to the Seoul Arts Center. He has also performed in concert repertoire including Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Bach’s Mass in B minor, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass. Since 2017, he has been a member of the Chœurs de l’Opéra national de Paris.
