Biography

Since his debut in the title role of Otello at La Fenice in Venice in 2012, Gregory Kunde has performed this role worldwide.

Recent highlights include his role debut as Florestan (Fidelio) at Opéra de Nice, Don Alvaro (La Forza del destino) at the Verdi Festival, Teatro Regio in Parma and Semperoper Dresden, Canio (Pagliacci) at Teatro Regio in Parma, Radamès (Aida) and Cavaradossi (Tosca) at Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, Manrico (Il Trovatore) at the Los Angeles Opera, Calaf (Turandot) at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Teatro Real Madrid, Énée (Les Troyens) at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Jean de Leyde (Le Prophète) at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the title role in Don Carlos at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Samson (Samson et Dalila) at the Metropolitan Opera New York, the title role in Andrea Chénier and Radamès at the Vienna Staatsoper, Radamès at the Teatro Real Madrid.

He also conducted the performance of The Barber of Seville at La Fenice in Venice. On the concert platform, he also performed the title role in Ernani at São Carlos, Lisbon, Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) at the Dallas Opera, Verdi’s Requiem and Calaf at the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Mahler’s Lied von der Erde at the BBC Proms, Peter Grimes (title role) at the Accademia nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and Faust (La Damnation de Faust) at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Highlights of the 2023/24 season include his role debut as Peter Grimes and Calaf at the Staatsoper in Hamburg, Eléazar (La Juive) at the Teatro Regio in Turin and the title role in Otello in Dresden, Rome, Piacenza and Modena. Gregory Kunde has also recorded the solo album “Vinceró!” (Universal) and won the 'Male Vocalist of the Year' award at the 2016 International Opera Awards.
