Biography
Since his debut in the title role of Otello at La Fenice in Venice in 2012, Gregory Kunde has performed the role worldwide.
Other engagements include his debut as Florestan (Fidelio) at Opéra de Nice, Don Alvaro (La Force du destin) at Festival Verdi, Teatro Regio Parma and Semperoper Dresden, Canio (Pagliacci) at Teatro Regio Parma, Radames (Aida) and Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca) at Rome Opera, Manrico (Le Trouvère) at Los Angeles Opera, Calaf (Turandot) at Hamburg Staatsoper, Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu and Madrid's Teatro Real, Aeneas (Les Troyens) at Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper, Jean de Leyde (Le Prophète) at Berlin's Deutsche Oper, the title role in Don Carlos at Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Samson (Samson et Dalila) at New York's Metropolitan Opera, the title role in Andrea Chénier and Radames at Vienna's Staatsoper, Radames at Madrid's Teatro Real.
He also returned to conduct Le Barbier de Séville at La Fenice in Venice. Concert appearances include the title role in Ernani at Lisbon's São Carlos, Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) at the Dallas Opera, Mahler's Le Chant de la Terre at the BBC Proms and Faust (La Damnation de Faust) at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw. More recently, he has performed the title role in Peter Grimes, Calaf and Dick Johnson (La Fille du Far-West) in Hamburg, Eleazar (La Juive) in Turin, the title role in Otello in Dresden, Rome, Piacenza, Modena and Stuttgart, Mario Cavaradossi in Rome, the title role in Andrea Chénier in Turin, Berlin and Parma, Radames in Verona.
In the 2025-2026 season, his roles include Osaka (Iris) in Madrid, the title roles of Otello in Catania and Stiffelio in Piacenza, and Canio in Venice. He has notably recorded the solo album “Vincero!” (Universal) and received the “Male Singer of the Year” award at the 2016 International Opera Awards.
