Biography

Geoffrey Layton was born in New York and began collaborating with Luc Bondy in 1980. He held a similar position with Ursel and Karl-Ernst Herrmann from 1979 until the end of Gerard Mortier’s tenure as director at La Monnaie in Brussels and he worked with Peter Zadek from 1995 to 1998.
He has also directed several opera productions including Verdi’s Don Carlo at the Theater Vorpommen in Stralsund, Monteverdi’s Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda and Joseph Haydn’s Orfeo ed Euridice at the Nationale Reis Opera, and Graun’s Montezuma at the Schlosstheater in Potsdam.
