Frode Olsen Bass

Biography

Frode Olsen was born in Oslo. Over the course of his career he has sung at many of the great international opera houses and venues, including the Théâtre de La Monnaie in Brussels, the Flanders Opera in Antwerp, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Dresden Semperoper, the Leipzig Opera, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Stuttgart Staatstheater, the Bonn Opera, the Oslo Opera, the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Rhine Opera (Strasbourg), the Dortmund Opera, the Stadttheater in Bern, the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Volksoper, the Theater an der Wien, the Glyndebourne Festival, the English National Opera, the Washington Opera, the Aix Festival, the Rouen Opera, the Lyon Opera, the Nantes Opera, the Marseille Opera, the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, and the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. His extensive repertoire includes the title role of Saint François d’Assise, Astradamors (Le Grand Macabre), King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Gurnemanz (Parsifal), Wotan (Die Walküre), Pimen (Boris Godunov), the Doctor (Wozzeck), and Arkel (Pelléas et Mélisande). 

He debuted the role of Hamm at the world premiere production of Fin de partie at Milan’s La Scala and he also sang in the premiere productions of Boesmans’ Au monde (the Father) and Hosokawa’s Matsukaze (the Monk) at La Monnaie in Brussels.
