Holding a master’s degree in the history of political thought and an accomplished musician (violin, guitar, double bass), Florent Karrer studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon. He founded the duo Vagabond with Chloé Elasmar and joined the Lyon National Opera Studio in 2019.
He has appeared in participatory opera productions such as Rigoletto at the Rouen Opera and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Among the roles he has performed are Papageno (The Magic Flute) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and later on film in Cédric Klapisch’s production; King V’lan (A Trip to the Moon) at the Montpellier Opera; Dancaïre (Carmen) at the Rouen Opera and subsequently in Hong Kong; the Podestà of Padua (Doctor Miracle) at the Tours Opera and then at the Théâtre du Châtelet; Baron Douphol (La Traviata) on tour with Opéra Nomade; and the Police Commissioner (Der Rosenkavalier) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He also nurtures a strong interest in art song and Lieder through regular recitals.
During the 2025–2026 season, he will notably make his debut as Valentin (Faust) in Mâcon, as the Viceroy (La Périchole) in Saint-Étienne, and in the title role of Britten’s Noah’s Ark in Tourcoing.
