Emile Trælnes Cello

Biography

Artist in residence at the Academy since September 2026

Born in Switzerland, Emile Trælnes began playing the cello at the age of five with Katerina Gancheva. He continued his studies at the Lausanne Conservatoire with Martin Reetz and Patrick Demenga before joining the Paris Conservatoire (Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris), where he studies with Edgar Moreau.

In 2024, he joined the Verbier Festival Orchestra, performing under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle and Klaus Mäkelä, among others. During the 2024/2025 season, he became a member of the Academy of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and served as principal cello of the Orchestre Français des Jeunes.

A prize-winner in several competitions, he received First Prize at the Swiss Youth Music Competition, the Riviera Competition, and the Antonio Salieri Competition. He has also taken part in numerous masterclasses with François Guye, Nitzan Laster, Joël Marosi, and Jérôme Pernoo.

Emile Trælnes joined the Academy of the Paris National Opera in September 2026.
