Biography

The French soprano Elsa Benoit studied at both the Amsterdam Conservatory and the Academy of the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam and then joined the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich where she performed the role of the Countess Adèle in Le Comte Ory. In 2015/2016, she joined the troupe of the Klagenfurt Stadttheater where she sang the roles of Titania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Micaëla (Carmen) and Despina (Così fan tutte). Since the 2016/2017 season, she has been a member of the troupe at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, during which time she has sung the roles of Émilie (Les Indes galantes), Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Poppea (Agrippina), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Musetta (La Bohème), and Nanetta (Falstaff). More recently, she made her Basle Theatre debut in the role of Mélisande (Pelléas et Mélisande) and she sang the title role in the world premiere production of Wolfgang Mitterer’s Marta first at the Lille Opera and then at the Reims Opera. She also sang the role of Poppea at several concerts with Il Pomo d’Oro under the baton of Maxim Emelyanychev (the Luxembourg Philharmonie, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Gran teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Barbican Centre in London and the Turku Festival in Finland). In addition, she made her debut appearance at the Opéra-Comique performing the role of Anna in Boieldieu’s La Dame blanche and went on to sing the role of Aricie (Hippolyte et Aricie).
